With the holidays and several trips during the 15th month, I did not get to take proper pictures of our shelf but here are some instagram pictures of “new” activities that were explored.

This van with different locks and latches was very popular! He enjoyed opening and closing the locks and also pushing the van around.

A shape sorter with two cubes, cylinders and triangular prisms. He really enjoyed this and used it multiple times a day. When I first set it up, I forgot to put a container for the pieces. He got the dish by himself. A sense of order!

A tracker with cars instead of balls. He has loved watching this since he was about 6 months and was able to use it at about 9 month. While in my office one day, he spotted it and requested it so I put it on his shelf

As I write this, I realize that this month, he decided by himself most of the activities that were on his shelf. I was waiting till he was about 18 months to introduce these blocks but again he found and requested them and they were very popular.

I had a few pieces in a basket by his shelf. He would take the basket to his preferred surface for work (this table) and build.

More than anything, there was a lot of motion this month. A lot of walking and running. Most of his time was spent running and he would frequently use the next 4 items consecutively.

Finally I installed this little frame with a door and latch. He really enjoys opening it, looking at the picture and closing it. I plan to rotate the pictures and eventually add a lock that he can open with a key.

I should note that I change items on the shelf as he loses interest, starts to misuse consistently or just seems bored. Some time it is once a month and other times it is multiple times. Some materials stay a couple of months.

The van is amazing! Did you make it yourself? Toy companies should get inspired by!

Thank you Esinduzel. I wish I could make that myself. It is by TAG toys. I have seen a lot of latch boards and boxes, both diy and commercial but this is the first van I have seen. I like that he can also use it for moving and he really enjoys it but for a classroom. I would choose the box or board instead.

I also love the van and the frame with door and latch. What great ideas!
